About the artist...

Jennifer Kirton draws quality, every day

Art provokes, sometimes antagonizes.
Central Florida artist Jennifer Kirton didn't set out to do either. Hers is a mission of devotion; devotion to technique, detail, quality and the gift God gave her.
“I tell stories with ink and pencil drawings,” says the wife and mother of three from Mt. Dora, Florida.
But perhaps it’s the process that tells this artist’s story.
“Occasionally I paint,” her artist statement explains. “But I have chosen to draw because it is such a constant challenge. I never draw two pictures the same. I want those who own one of my drawings to feel the honor in knowing that that piece of artwork is truly their own.”
It was through this devotion to the uniqueness of her work that Kirton developed what she calls her spotlight technique which infuses portions of her pencil and ink drawings with color.
While Kirton admits that the use of color started as a means to call attention to her work, she’s learned from drawing or painting everyday over a 30-year career and dozens of awards and exhibitions in the US and Europe, how to use that color to tell her story.
“It’s my way to incorporate another view into the picture,” which she explains is never derived from a photograph. “It is my belief that drawing is an art form in its own right, not a stepping stone to another media. It is for this reason that I am so heavily dedicated to drawing and the interplay of form, value and line.”

Kirton’s work is also listed on the International Registry of Artwork and Artists.
