About the artist...
H. Allen Benowitz
Allen's interest in photography started with a "Kodak moment."
"My early passion resurfaced one morning upon seeing my six-year old son and our black and white springer spaniel bathed in a sunbeam through an amber stained-glass window. I captured the moment in a photograph which received honorable mention in the International Kodak Contest," he explains about his moment.
But photogrpahy's always been there for Allen from taking pictures of his friends a child to photographs prize-winning work.
His latest work captures the people and landscapes of Africa, India and the Orient.
During business hours, Allen runs his own court-reporting company and is credited with performing the first videotape deposition in the country. And later playing an instrumental role in developing videoconferencing for use in the legal community in the United States.
But during his travels, he lives his life, gaining a personal look at the world, something video-conferencing isn't able to do, for him either.
"Having captured the spoken word and memorializing same on paper, and later on disk, the camera became a natural segue and my eye for detail moved from the courtroom to the world," he says. "I consider myself a life sampler, which is reflected in the variety of my work. Inspired by a recent trip to the Orient, in addition to color photography, I have rediscovered the dramatic effect of black and white images."
